The chicken video was cute.
Hey, I'm on earlier than the rest of you this morning! Good morning all. (Er, I mean goodnight...)
It's been an interesting night, to put it mildly.
My coturnix eggs went on lockdown this morning (er yesterday now). The three button eggs should have already hatched...days ago. I'd figured they were goners and was just leaving them in until after the coturnix were done. Well, lo and behold, tonight I had a baby in the incubator when I got home from work. So, madly started getting a brooder set up for them (er Rubbermaid tub with heat lamp...) It took a bit because I was also moving the three week olds to the basement. It's just getting too cold for them in the garage.
While in the midst of that, another one pipped, zipped, and hatched in no time. It was out of that egg in NO TIME. The third one hasn't done anything yet. However, the other two kept staying up against it, so maybe they were hearing it inside the egg.
The two were pretty unhappy in the incubator. I really think they decided it wasn't a second egg that they needed to crack. (The
Brinsea mini has a clear plastic dome shaped lid.) So, at about four and six hours old they are now in their brooder, complete with the same purple stuffed animal that was used for Penguin & Itsy Bitsy, and with the addition of a fuzzy green cat toy. (The cats have plenty. They can share.) The purple beanie baby JUST got washed two days ago and is now back in service. They both decided my hand was a good place to hide under but are okay with the bear, too. They are SO tiny.
Tomorrow I'll try to post pictures. (Yes, I've taken several. I hope I got a couple of good ones!)
In the midst of getting everything ready, I was in a hurry and forgot my son had closed the sliding glass patio door going into my sunroom. I slammed into it horribly hard. Should have gone to the ER (couldn't have driven) because I hit my head terribly hard, but didn't go. I've waited several hours and think it's okay that I go to bed now. Dadgummed sliding glass door! I knew I was going to do that someday. My whole body feels like I was in a car wreck now. Twisted my back, knee, neck. Slammed my face and head against the thing and I think I must have bounced off and hit it a second time because I'm sore in more than one place--eyebrow AND head. Skinned my wrist somehow in the process and wrenched the other wrist. I tell ya, I couldn't have managed to bang myself up much worse unless I'd broke right on through the door! I feel like those ravens in that Windex commercial...
I'll be around some tomorrow. I've got to get up in the night to check babies but hope to get a little sleep!
