We are still going through the turn the heat on in the vehicle on the way to work and have the A/C on in the afternoon! We haven't had much rain to speak of in the last couple of weeks either. The farmers are in full swing with the crops right now.

I shouldn't say that though, usually by now we have snow too. It is unseasonably warm, supposed to be near 75 today. The entire weekend is going to be nice, and perfect timing for Home Coming. Raymond is attending the Bon Fire tonight after FB practise. I don't understand why they had it today, then nothing tomorrow then saturday is the parade, game, BBQ and Dance

History
Modern dating is relatively new in the grand scheme of things. The act of casual dating between members of the opposite sex whether teenagers or older, is a little over a century old. In earlier centuries and in many other parts of the modern world, casual dating is anathema to forming life-long relationships. Courting is an established ritual that begins with the man asking permission of a woman's family to court her. This formal act of asking is a declaration of intentions that the man wishes to pursue a long-term relationship, but requires the approval of the family prior to the "getting acquainted" phase. Historically, dating does not require permission from the woman's family, only from the woman and it is done with the intention to share a meal or enjoy an evening together without the promise for future relations (see Resources).
Significance
The difference between courting and dating can also be found in the level of significance placed on each type of interaction. Courting includes formal rituals, observation and carries with it an air of respectful intent. Time spent together during courting is carefully observed by a chaperon and conversations are focused on desires, interests and experiences. The couple can safely explore their compatibility on an intellectual and emotional level while maintaining a safe physical distance. Dating provides no such formal security or observation. A date can be two people meeting at a coffee house and sharing a latte. It bears no significance beyond hanging out and requires even less thought to plan (see Resources).
Types
The modern sense of dating involves a multitude of dating options, from online dating to blind dates to multiple-partner dating (see Resources). The quest to find love and romance increases with each passing year as people try to disguise their flaws, put their best foot forward and look for Mr. or Mrs. Right. Courting does not ask couples to disguise who they are or try to appear in the most flattering lights. Many conversations during courtship, viewed under a watchful eye of parents or other chaperons, are designed to explore attitudes, agreements and expectations that are not typically addressed by couples who are dating. In the event that courtship is sponsored by parents arranging a marriage for their children, the courtship is a time for the couple to get to know each other before they will be married.
Time Frame
Religious and cultural expectations set different time frames for courtship. For two adults facing an arranged marriage, courtship may be 3 to 6 months in length before formal engagement and wedding preparations begin. For couples exploring their options through formal courting, the courtship begins with a series of organized events and interactions and may last 6 to 12 weeks. Typically, formal courting results in marriage, but occasionally the man or the woman may withdraw their interest and interaction between the pair will cease. This differs greatly from dating that has no formal or established time frame. Some couples may date for 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years or 2 decades.
Misconceptions
Courtship is not limited to historical interactions between men and women. When discussed in popular culture, courtship may be presented as an archaic tradition hearkening back to a bygone era, but many people still practice the rituals of courtship over modern casual dating. Courtship requires a level of commitment and preparedness on the part of the men who seek to garner a woman's affection; if he's not ready for marriage, he should not be courting the lady. Although regarded as old-fashioned, many modern couples subscribe to courtship rituals and standards as a foundation for a solid, long-lasting relationship.

I can remember doing that when I was young. (yes, we had phones then! Lol!) I actually woke up on the couch one morning with the phone in my ear, the cord stretched clear across the room and the phone going BEEP BEEP BEEP!

I know what courting is. I have watched 19 kids and counting!

I also worked with a Mennonite who shared with me how they go about the courting thing goes. I, for one, think it is very old fashioned and outdated. But that is just my opinion.
