I've gotten gritty eggs like that... was thinking maybe the hens were getting too much calcium? What causes it?

I also get barred rock eggs that are speckled - and the speckles rub off, maybe blood-spots? Makes every day Easter.

My black sex link hen, Zulie, lays brown eggs with pale spots on them. I can always tell her eggs from the plain brown of my reds and rocks.
