My soon-to-be 6-year-old rooster (God willing) is losing so many feathers. They look chewed on and broken, and I suspect depluming feather mites. He's had 2 Ivermectin shots recently. I hadn't found any actual feathers in the coop until a few days ago, but there are some. They are very ratty looking. He's not due for a molt until the fall, so I don't know whether the Ivermectin is working. His energy is good and he's eating well. The vet did say that cancer of the testes is known to make a roo's feathers fall out, but they will physically fall out onto the ground, not disappear or look broken and chewed on. I'm considering a dip of some kind, mineral oil or Sulphur, but I'm curious as to whether anyone has actually witnessed a roo go through cancer of the testes? If so, what were the symptoms, and do you have any photos? Thanks so much!

I am sorry your are having to deal with pest, they can be a big pain.
I have not seen/read any where of someone using a shot of this for mites, I have seen where people use it internally for worms but not mites.
Very interesting to me that your vet gave him a shot of it, did he not recommend using the ivermectin as drops on his skin too?

I would get some poultry dust and give it a try.\Here is a interesting article about malathion abouthttps://ucanr.edu/repositoryfiles/ca901p13-58988.pdf

No, he didn't mention using Ivermectin drops, Kiki. My roo is mean and I'm not sure he ever made it out of the cage. When I took him

for his 2d shot, it was a different vet on duty, and he asked the assistant how the vet who first saw him had managed to give him a shot, as feisty as he is. The assistant explained that the first vet pushed him over to the side of his cage to administer the shot.

He has always eaten Nutrena All Flock chicken food , which is designed with roosters in mind (lower calcium content, since to much calcium is bad for roosters), but recently I switched to Nutrena Feather Fixing Food. It has more calcium but also more protein and trace minerals. He also eats

He also eats scrambled eggs, watermelon, lettuces, plain yogurt and has been drinking a lot of vitamin water with electrolytes. He gets apple cider vinegar in his water. He gets meal worms, and blueberries.
