Ever Make Chicken For Your Chickens?

Well, I just bought some store bought chicken on sale for a big pot of soup for DH and me.

It gave me a new appreciation for the way I process Chicken.

I trimmed so much fat and waste and I hate to waste food.

So I made a Chicken and Noodle Casserole for my 40 layers and 30 cats.

Put a bit of bread in the final result so it would spread.

Of course, they still get layer crumbles and dry cat food, but just wondered it anyone here ever gives chicken to chickens, LOL.

Mine LOVE chicken,...... esp. BBQ! I took mine a huge pot of chicken rice soup that I burned the bottom of

DH wasn't very happy... but my chooks sure were!

I haven't fed mine any meat scraps but I have read posts on other thread where some say they do.

After I make soup stock from necks and carcasses, I toss the necks and sometimes parts of the carcass to the chickens. Please don't judge me

They LOVE it and it is astonishing how clean they can pick those bones even after I've done MY best to get little bits for fried rice and so on.

I suppose there is a theoretical possibility of some bird analog of mad cow disease, type thing, but honestly, there are enough theoretical possibilities of bad things in the world, I am not going to sit here all in a dither worrying about all of 'em. They like the chicken, it's good protein for them, I give it to 'em

You should see what they do with a whole left over Thanksgiving turkey carcass!! It looks like something you'd find in a desert when they're done with it. They love it and it keeps them busy for hours!! Pork chop bones will keep them busy for a long time too.

Yeah, I've heard compelling arguments from both sides....it's good for them and they like it vs. bad cannabalistic mojo

I was a strong believer in the bad cannabalistic mojo til I got back into chickens and realized what garbage disposals they really were. Mine free range and I've seen peeps tackle a praying mantis bigger than they were. They all ran around fighting eachother for it and ripping it to shreds....kinda reminds me of the velicoraptors from Jurrasic Park!

Now, Im on the side of give it to them. They eat mice for pete's sake! A lot of the mash does not have high enough protein so I think it's beneficial for them and your not wasting anything. It's definitely a no-brainer...I think.

....and let's face it, they are chickens. There's not too much going on up there, so feed them the chicken!!
