In todays hatch, I'm thrown off by 2 of the chicks. I have one that's a black and white chipmunk, and one orange and yellow chipmunk! The dad of these newly hatched chicks is a full blooded Novogen Brown rooster, which of course has no barring or chipmunk. These new chicks only have barring in their lineage from their moms mom. (maternal grandmother) With this information, does this chipmunk give any clues as to if it's a boy or girl? Any guess as to what color they'll turn out to be?

I have. I once had a chick with a black and white chipmunk that I saw when I opened up a failed incubating egg. It was small, about the size of my pinkie finger in mass, but it had a very distinct black and white chipmunk. I have always wondered if that as just the stage the chick was at or what the chick would have looked like if it had survived to hatch.

One picture is of the rooster and one of the mothers (she's from a Splash marans rooster and barred Olive Egger hen) The other picture is the other mother who is from the same Barred Olive Egger mom, but her dad is a mut rooster who has no barring at all.

I'm also assuming that all chipmunk looking chicks have barring in their lineage. Am I wrong? Now I'm reading that other types that aren't necessary barred can have the chipmunk look. If so, I could be wrong about who the mom is. However, my biggest curiosity is if they're males or females. The father is puree Novogen Brown, but the moms are mutts.

Now that I think about it, my Speckled Sussex were chipmunk, and of course they're not barred.

None of your chicks are barred. Barring can’t skip generations. They are or they’re not
I'm not sure how to explain this one then. It sure looks like a barred male with that dot on its head. I know it's maternal grandmother was barred.
