My two Gobblers, the lighter one, or "Banana Palm" as i call him, his name is Jake.
The Darker one is called Tom, being the dominant one. Both of these breeds are mixed im sure because i have no idea of what they could be. Whats really cool is Jake is double-bearded! =]

i didnt think they were introduced, but you learn something everyday! Im curious why they would introduce easterns out there because of rio grande and merriams?

Probably because no bird in their right mind would live here in the winter, and turkeys don't migrate. Deep snow cover kills a lot of birds in the winter because the food source is buried.

Your lighter bird looks an awful lot like a Jersy Buff to me! My dream bird that I want to get!!! Going to try this year... need to get an order in with Porter Turkeys as soon as I figure out what all I want.

when he struts, he is like yellow with black tips, and his fan has like banana colored tips like the Royal palms have black, so i called him a Banana Palm lol

thank you! im 99% sure hes a bluff, quick question though, if there were two different breeds of turkey, and they had offspring, would the mixed offspring be infertile? i heard that before and was just wondering

Nope. Turkeys aren't actually 'breeds', they are varieties. The Buff was used to create the Bourbon Reds. When the Buffs eventually pretty much went extinct, the Bourbon Red was used to recreate the Buff (that line is the Jersey Buff). What we have as turkeys are pretty much color variations of wild turkeys, which aren't different breeds, but merely subspecies. I think the only one that may be an exception is the Ocellated Turkey in Mexico.

I'm posting some more turkey pics from Turkey Heaven...

Here is Nosy Turkey: "what are you doing with that camera, chickenannie? I'd like to peck it cuz it might taste good" (Their wings are clipped so they don't fly out over the fence).

Big Turks inside, little turks get to roam free and hang out on fence, watching... (can you say 'happy turkeys'?)

Help! My turkey babies are too big and they won't all fit under my wings anymore (note little baby turkey butts sticking out everywhere... she was trying REALLY hard to stretch out her wings to accommodate them all!)

At this age, the pen was their night pen only. During the day, they roamed free with momma. I trained them to walk back to this pen and fly in through the little door at night (although momma would wait for me to pick her up and put her inside). Food helps a lot too cuz they learned they could have a nice snack and drink if they went inside the pen after a long day of roaming the pastures with momma hen.

My little turkey paddock (wasn't fox proof at the time and I lost a few). Would you believe those turkeys kept the grass short?
