Everybody wants to use the same nest.

I have 26 laying hens and 6 nests, but everyone wants the same nest! They crowd 3 or 4 hens in the one nest and the others actually stand in line. This morning I had enough, so I stapled tea towels to 5 of the wooden nest frames like curtains. Would you believe I had 4 eggs in one of the nests and eggs in two others this afternoon. None in the "favorite" nest. Maybe this is a solution.

Seems like a cheap, easy solution. Good idea...worth trying.

Good idea! I tend to believe that they like new things. I had the same problem and they actually waited in line to use the cat carrier I had in the coop (for in injured bird) Then I had a rabbit hutch put in the large run as well with the coop and then they were all on that in a heartbeat!
