Everyone should raise their own turkey next year!!!

I got them from a small custom hatchery, the owners name is John he is on here under the name wooden animal - you wouldn't believe how nice his breeding stock is.

rare roo & jam bunny - my new hen is a Bourbon Red; we really like her looks but she is a bit more distant than the Blue Slate or the Black Spanish, which is probably a good thing lol. She is a bit wilder, nesting higher ranging further. we'll see the difference come hatching time.

p.s. jambunny - totally cool to raise your whole Thanksgiving dinner . . . I wonder if I could do that, what a great goal!

I keep telling myself next year...

I would enjoy the chase of the bird and my sister until we get a chance to do that anyways. My sister is terrified of ALL my birds... and a turkey running around with the mix would just add to the fun.

as for the neighbors yard you will need more than a fence if you don't clip their wings. Amos (my big tom) had a semi loaded with steel stopped in the neighbors driveway the other day, he felt they had not properly admired his feathers and was giving them another good lonnnnng look. Fortunately our neighbors shave a good sense of humor about it.
So far I like the Black Spanish, Blue Slat and Red Bourbon. I found the Royal Palms a bit to flighty. I haven't been around the White Hollands yet.

get a Broad Breasted White Tom to fill your requests, day olds from hatchery should be great. you will have to ask someone who knows more than me how long to raise them, but what I did was butcher at the right size and freeze until Tday.

Helloo chica! Here is my boy "Snood" when he was 5 months old

Id say he weighs about 15-lbs right now:) I go back and forth on butchering him-depends on my mood. When he behaves he stays when he beats up the hens because he doesnt want them near the feeders I get angry and look for the choppers! SO far-since he is breeding and she is laying he stays. My luck Id hatch out all girls and then be stuck with no Tom for breeding if I offed him:-( I have 1 egg that Im really tempted to put under my broody....
