Do you have a beagle?

I had a beagle bassett mix that we got from the shelter. He passed away about 4 yrs ago.

My turkey pen, turned chicken summer pen, turned duck pen... and now Beagle exercise pen! I need to fix the gate opening. It’s no longer a very good door. He can run around off lead though, and as long as I’m standing by the opening, we’re fine.

Okay, the story. Seven weeks ago, my dog passed away. I sincerely didn’t want another indoor animal. I did look into rabbits (ironic since beagles are rabbit hunters) as a precaution in case I broke down.
There’s a hunting camp next door, and it’s rabbit season. There were eleven dogs (that I saw) singing away this week. I thought, “wouldn’t it be funny if they gave me a dog? They breed and train, so it “could” have happened, but c’mon! It won’t!”
An hour before leaving, a guy comes over...
Maaco is 2 this month. AKC, and beautiful. But all the training in the world wasn’t making him find the rabbits. I don’t have his papers, but he was free, so I probably won’t get them.
In December, the guys will be back for deer. That will be the end of the trial period. I don’t forsee an issue though. I mean, isn’t it “meant to be”? I thought about them giving me a dog, and they did.
Btw, Maaco has a brother, Uh Oh, named by one of their gd.

That is such a sweet story. Do you mean you are giving the dog a trial period? He could be the worst dog on the planet and I would keep him just due to the circumstances.

Well I hope all goes well! He is a cutie!

A beagle wandered onto my property (the exact same thing happened for my lab too) back in February, he had no identification but was the cutset thing youll ever see. I considered adopting him, but by law he needed to go to the animal shelter for about week, just to see if his owners come and claim him. That was one of the most stressful weeks ever. I was busy putting up found beagle signs all over the place, but still nothing.

Finally the week past, and I became a beagle momma. <3 I will prolly never know where he came from but all i know is, he is a healthy, sensitive, mischeivious, sweet lil guy.

Here, they always ask you to keep the stray. That was even before cities had to get rid of police, fireworks and animal shelters. It’s just easier to have people unofficially “foster” the animal.

The trial is because I really don’t want another animal. It’s a responsibility I don’t always feel qualified for. Then there’s the financial factor, and... Even yesterday I was petting him, and wondering how I’d handle him dying. I now have tears trickling down. I’ve lost so much. I don’t want to love again.

My lab is getting old. She is nine now, and I'm starting to realize how precious time is with her. She is still quite spry but still I now the feeling.

But I think moments like these we should look back on the good times with fondness and love. They may not be here presently, but they left their little paw prints on your heart forever, and that alone is a very special thing. Some people out there never experienced the love and loyalty of a pupper. <3

Enjoy the moment with your beagle, love him and give him the life he deserves.
