Everything dies!

Hello! I want to garden and make my own food. I have a compost pile so I have good soil that I use. We then till the land with the soil from my compost. I water it every day before the sun comes up or after the sun goes down. They will start to grow well.. then BAM dead. I want so badly to be successful in this! What are some things you learned or mistakes you made that made everything just fall apart? Thank you!

A gardener I'm definitely NOT But did want welcome you & know you'll get the help you're looking for, just be patient My Dad could grow anything from clipping, my brother tries & does ok. I've tried but gardening is not my forte Raising animals I'm better at, we all have things we're good at, just a matter of figuring it out. Don't give up ...

Your compost might be too ‘hot.’ Or too young. You could try balancing ph with lime.

Also are you overwatering? Some plants don’t do well with constantly wet roots and then mold and rot.

Overwatering maybe part of the problem, OP states I water it every day before the sun comes up or after the sun goes down

Bogtown chick: I live in Florida and it got really hot so the soil was getting really dry, so I was worried they did not have enough water.I will try the lime! I appreciate the advice!

Too much water is usually worse than not enough.

Plants will tell you if they need more water but will die before they tell you they are drowning.

Are you lookin at the dept of ag there and planting things at the right time there? We were stationed there for four years and the first year i did just that... planted things like i would have in ky but that is way wrong for florida and everything burned up dead. Raised beds work the best where you are. Pineapples, citrus, berries, root veggies, cilantro, chives, onions, sage, basil LOVE the sandy soil there. Another thing i had do where we lived was to pollenate everything either by shakin the crap out of it or qtips... bees, bugs, butterflies and the like are hard to come by. So i got beautiful plants the second year and all my blossoms fell right off no pollenation or fruits. Find shady spots in the yard. Even though you think it is shade it is still plenty of light for stuff and it helps keep things from gettin sunburned. Also micing in compost or potting soil in the sand and mulch helps hold the water and nutrients that the sand leeches away so quickly.
