Someone I know has had to let his friends family come stay with him because they were on level 2 evacuation and after twenty minutes his whole house was burnt down.. they managed to get the animals out but everything else gone. It can happen so fast there is nothing you can do. Its a fearful time.. every year more fires and every year more loss..I'm so sorry to hear for those stuck around these fires. We've been getting hazy conditions for days outside of California and Oregon because of the terrible fires so I can only imagine how hazardous it is for those that are living there.
Wildfires are scary and we have wildfire season here every year. Most people I think shrug it off and think an evacuation will never happen to them, but that's far from the truth. Always be prepared for a wildfire - they can happen just about anywhere. I remember when we had a bad one close to use one year, people were trying to evacuate and there were lines to get out. People brought trailers and kept trying to go back to get horses, goats, cows, pigs, etc. and law enforcement was not wanting to let people back in. Some people went in anyway for their animals, of course at their own risk. There were animals that got bad burns and some that didn't make it because they couldn't get them out in time. This was a rough year, I can imagine even more so for those with homes and animals that were lost.
I have heard of people letting their animals to go to escape. In some situations, they find a safe haven and come home when it's all over, but it depends on how fierce the fire is and where all it is burning. I would say a horse or something may be more likely to survive than a chicken.
I will continue praying that everything will be okay!
