I would add more cover to his pen. Cut some spruce or pine branches and put them in a pile in the pen. The birds will use that as cover and as a place to lay their eggs.

Yes, he was! It was a male Reeves pheasant. He escaped from his enclosure when he was a juvenile. I was unable to recapture him, so he 'free ranged'. He survived for 4 1/2 years before succumbing to a predator.

Wonder no more! How's this for long tail feathers? over 6 feet! Pheasants have a whole range of personalities, just like people do!
