I am planning on moving my two chicks outside this weekend. They will be six weeks. I already have a flock of six hens that are over a year old. The chicks are currently in a 30 gallon plastic bin right now. I am planning on putting up a puppy pen, placing the bin inside after cutting a door into it, and then placing some kind of netting on the top. I plan to do this for at least a week until the other girls get used to them. Then I hope to transition them to the main coop with the rest of the girls. Does this sound like a good plan or is there anything else I should consider. Should I place the bin on something to get it off of the ground?

Sounds like a plan to me. I too use dog crates as bittie pens and integration tools. After a week or so, take out the bin and make sure to have bedding on the floor. I'll open the door just big enough for the bitties and supervise coop time every day for a week or so, then leave the door open for them to come and go as they will. By this time, other than the odd peck at feeding time, or if they wander into a hen's scratching area, you should be good.
