I have weighed the pros and cons of posting these questions:
CON:
I will show the BYC world just what a chicken newbie I am.
PROS:
1) My pride can take the hit.
2) The seasoned members will probably get a morning chuckle out of it.
3) Other newbies may benefit from the responses.

My LH mounted one of my EE hens last night. This morning, all three EEs and my 2 BOs were slick and wet on their backs near the base of their tails. None of the other hens (all younger/smaller) had this.

Question 1: Is this evidence that he mounted them all, but missed the mark?
Question 2: If so, is it safe to assume both BOs (3-4 months) are hens? (I posted on Breeds and Gender but the jury is still out!) The EE are laying, so I know their gender, lol.

Thank you in advance for your responses!

LOL!! Well now I'm feeling ignorant! I have seen whitish residue (dried) on my hens due to (I assumed) mating. But to actually have wet, shiny areas back there, I'm thinking that you must have SOME rooster...LOL. (In defence of my roos, they are bantams and most of my girls are LF). Are you seeing any "evidence" around their vent feathers???

IF it's from his clumsy attempts at mating, then I'd presume you had all females. However, I have read a FEW cases where a lead roo will attempt to mate (to dominate) a cockerel...

Basically I've been no help...lol. But I look forward to hearing from folks who have LF roosters - I may be learning something I didn't want to know...lol.

LOL. The vent feathers are unviolated, however, upon a closer look, some of the tail feathers are "messy," too!

I wondered why he wasn't up on his roost this morning crowing, poor little guy was tuckered out, sleeping in a nest box!

With my normal sized birds there is no evidence of sperm plugs in feathers around vent. Male and female coordinate very well enabling hitting mark. Sperm plug might be visible only transiently actually within cloaca opening.
