Evil guinea is killing my sweet rooster!

Um, my birds are a source of food for our family. I love them and I am kind to them, but when it comes down to it, they are food.
Take your judgement somewhere else.

Ours have been a bit gamey, but not off-putting at all. When I cook them, I make a sealed bag out of aluminum foil and put the whole business in a big baking pan. I also completely skin them, because they don't make a clean carcass, at least not when I'm the one processing!
The last ones I did were delicious. I put big wedges of sweet onions around the bird, stuffed the cavity with a few garlic cloves, and painted the bird with a sweet/hot barbecue sauce. I also added some bacon for fat and smoke.

Previously I've done them with herbs, garlic, and lemon wedges stuffed in the carcass, and that was delicious too. The legs are inedible, though

Clarification: *I* think the legs are inedible. The Man gobbles them up no problem.

For those who still want to keep their guineas, try a BB gun. My 2 guinea boys still give my chickens too much exercise, but are not near as rough since I got a cheap BB gun, and I found that just the air pressure ( I couldn't get get the BBs to actually load up, it was so sorry) was enough to give the guineas the message. Getting close enough is the hard part. I want to get a super-soaker water gun to try when it's warmer. Now, they've turned to playfighting with each other, which is fair game, I suppose. I was thinking that if I got them mates, they might pick at chickens less, but from your stories, maybe they'd be worse, and I should leave well enough alone. Do the females also pick at chickens?

In my experience guinea fowl have a slightly gamey flavor-somewhat like pheasant to me. I find it a welcome addition to the table. The breast meat is not as "white" as chicken breast. An adult male at this time of year the fowl equivalent of the "rut" is probably best cooked in the crockpot. O T I absolutely agree with your philosophy on raising and caring for animals and fowl.

Yep. My male guinea killed my best rooster last year. I don't have guineas anymore......

In the spring when the guinea hens are getting ready to lay the males get really bad and are very dangerous for roosters to be around them.

I would definitely get rid of the male guinia and get another female for the one you have now. I have a rooster named Jack that had ricketts last summer and he took over 2 months of me nursing him back to health and he is the Alpha roo in my run, but I have gotten rid of 4 other roosters because he is my love. I refuse to have anything mess with him. Yep I know that this is how nature is but I don't want aggressiveness in my chicken coops. I sure hope that Tufts heals up and makes a complete recovery. Poor baby. I will pray for him to heal.
