How old do you think she is?

Elkie is now 9 months old. As a chick she was really one to pass over. She was little, a bit ugly and had those crazy leg feathers. But that's what made her so special.
The little chick she is protecting so well isn't hers although she did all the work so I'm not going to tell her.... however we do have three from my incubator experiment. These three are hers. The last three pics are the chicks on the top photo left to right as they were at a week old and now at 4 weeks old.

So pretty! And such cute baby chick pictures :) I love the ones with the chick sticking its little head out from under her wing! Looks like all of her chicks are going to be beautiful too

She took the little chick out to the doorway to sit in the morning sun.

shhhh, mums the word, I wont tell her . Maybe noone else will tell either.
She looks like she will be a great mom.
Are you or can you give hers back to her after they hatch?

Elkie is doing everything right so far. While I was taking the photos I watched one of the White Plymouth Rock hens walk right by her and the chick to go lay an egg in one of the nest boxes and there was not even a care in the world from the other hen. That was surprising. We have seven chicks inside in a brooder that are now a month old. Three of those seven (the ones in the photos) are Elkie's. I wish I had let her do all the work but at the time she wasn't broody. She went broody the day they hatched! Go figure.
