I just have to rant because I am so mad! We have a ewe sheep with her baby. I am so sick and tired of her. She gets a fleck of hay, cup of grain and all the pasture grass she can eat. But you know what she does? She breaks down my coop and tramples my chickens to try to get to their food. If I go out to give the chickens some scraps she will charge them or me. I have to carry a big stick. Hopefully she will be gone tomorrow. I have told my in-laws that they can't keep her in our backyard anymore. They keep telling me its normal for her to be like that. But I think she is just mean. I mean she trampled my brand new chicks when I tried to feed them. The coop is all enclosed by 2X4 construction but heaven help if my 5 year old goes to collect eggs. Ughh sorry for the rant I am just so mad.

Totally understand! The one sheep we had here drove me nuts!
He ate his food and everything else in sight! Cat, dog, chicken food... everything! He even ate a basket of eggs my son set down while he was feeding. We kept him with our goats until the neighbor found him a new home.

I tell you, he was enough to turn me off of ever having sheep! he gave them all a bad name.

Thank you for sharing your story! I have had so many different animals over the years in our small pasture. But nothing has boiled my blood like this dumb sheep. Like your sheep, our sheep ate EVERYTHING in site. It was like a goat I tell you if it wasn't nailed down it was fair game. Our sheep even tries to get into the very secure rabbit hutch to eat those pellets.

I can't believe your sheep ate those eggs!

I am with you, we won't EVER be having sheep again.

Have you ever considered dusting the chicken food with pepper?

From what I understand, chickens and birds in general, are inaffected by the spicy and hot flavors of pepper, but a sheep would probably get a good lick and have it's eyes pop out of it's head.

Start a thread in the Feeding and Watering section, and ask which peppers and how much you can add. I bet it would help deter that ewe if she got a good mouthful of pepper.

As much as I would delight in seeing her stopped in her tracks....I doubt she would care as she munched down some jalepeno doritos the other day.

thanks for the info ! I have been begging my better half for a ' sweet baby lamb', but now, .I'll do without. I have 2 nubian females, 1 sweet donkey 3 ducks, and of course my babies, 18 barred rocks, 1 buff, 3 arcanubas, a wonderful mix that a sheep just would'nt fit in:D

Miss Meanie would soon become chops and roasts in my freezer. I do not blame you. I had one sheep growing up and she was the meanest thing to every walk the planet. Charge, kick, headbutt, bite, stomp... She had to go to.

I like the Blackbelly Barbados but prefer goats.

I would give that wench of yours some habaneros...nice and squished so the juice just ran all over her mouth. Wear gloves if you do it. Or I can drive a pot of my curry rice over ... I love hot hot hot stuff...my curry rice has made grown men cry.
