Ewww! My first kill today. Am sick as a dog ever since. Any thoughts?

If it makes you feel better.....the first time I killed/processed was 4 CX chickens. I had read and read and watched videos...I was very determined to do it.

It took me over 1 hour to get them all skinned/gutted/in the freezer. Once I was done I realized "this really isn't THAT bad". Of course the next thought that popped into my head was "Serial killers get started by killing animals and not feeling bad about it" ROFLMAO!!!!

I think the meat people here are great,. But some people aren't cut out for it. Maybe you could do it with another person, or see if anyone processes nearby

People laugh at me but I kiss my fish and thank them for letting me catch them. I kissed 3 hens and thanked them for their time here. That part is hard. Laying their head on the log isn't so tough, nor is the slice of the blade swinging the head to the ground and tying the feet into the noose to hang over/in the bucket.

I respect all of Gods creatures. I also love to eat meat. I figure if God wanted me to eat salad all the time he'd a made me a rabbit.

Now, maybe in Europe, they leave the innards in, but I don't care if it was 20 degrees. I don't even leave the innards in a rabbit til i get home. Them innards is coming out soon as it's plucked.

It actually bothered me because I had to wait on my girlfriend to bring her 12 year old who wanted to pluck one. If I could figure a way to clean the insides before plucking, I would. But.... I'll just go along with how they've been doing it for thousands of years.

Are you trying to say I'm not cut out for it? How were you your first time? And me - if I want something done, I do it myself. Includes building, driving diggers/tractors and tree felling.

I know that feeling, 6-acre-zoo. I think stress and tension messes with digestion.

After a particularly stressful or tense situation is over, I'll sometimes feel nauseous and like I'm going to barf.

Thanx pet, yeah.....haven't felt that awful for a long time! Reckon I could do it again no problem though, so long as I'm not killed stone-dead by hanging the chicken overnight before plucking, etc.!! Still, it's worked that way for most people over here (a culture that dates back to at least 3000 yrs. BC)....I'm in good company eh?

No, I was trying to say that some people, like me are not cut out for it. I respect people who do raise meat birds. You posted you were sick as a dog-I was suggesting something towards your "sick as a dog".
