Good afternoon! - I have to thank you for sharing some of your sun - today is cloudless and very hot (for Ireland)! Consequently, we have moved the girls into a small makeshift pen outside under umbrellas. Their feet have been soaked and cleaned in Hibiscrub (an antiseptic liquid mixed with warm water), their bald patches coated in antiseptic cream and blue spray. They were all very good at being handled which was a relief. I even managed to get a look at their toes and it looks as if they have a couple of callouses looking a bit like corns. I shall soak their feet again tomorrow and see how it looks then but I don't know if there is anything else I can put on them? They are currently sunbathing and it melts the heart to see them laid out with one wing expanded even with all the blue spray all over them!. A couple of our original adopted hens came over for a look and I thought there was going to be a punch up! Our big new girl and one of our first adoptees went head to head butting each other with their chests - thank goodness the chicken wire was between them - it gave me quite a fright! The indoor girl actually hopped out of her basket and is trying to get about now. Her toe is still quite swollen but it is going down. I want to try and leave her in the stable with the others tonight but my husband wants to wait until she can get around a bit better just in case the other two decide to pick on her......
We have Ivermectin here - I had to use it on my horses a few years back when they got lice from some straw I bought. Your method of de-lousing sounds a much more sensible way of getting rid of them than the methods used in some videos I've seen. What about mites though? We do use mite powder on a regular basis in their houses but I wonder if this is enough. I haven't seen anything crawling on any of them so far.
The killings that are going on in America are making the news here and I can't believe what is happening. As you say, it just seems to be getting worse and it's frightening to think how it might all end. I don't know what your thoughts are on it, but from an outsider's point of view, I just wish that guns had never been invented. I dread to think how many people and animals have had their lives cut short by these weapons. I don't know why humans can't just get on with each other and be happy with what they've got instead of being hell bent on destroying everything. And now you have an election coming up.... that will be interesting......
As for homeless people, here they are mainly in the big towns or cities so we don't actually see much of them. We do have a lot of Romanian immigrants in the towns though where the women, usually with a child in tow, sit outside banks etc begging for money whatever the weather. People did feel sorry for them and were generous - until it was discovered they were part of organised begging rings. The migration of the poor people of Syria and Iraq into Europe has caused serious problems in that racial tensions are again very high. Based on the immigration issue, the Brjtish people voted to leave the European Union but this has backfired as it turns out that they can't stop the level of immigration if they want to stay in a single market! For me, I think the most frightening thing going on in the world at the moment is ISIS - you just don't know where they will turn up! The whole world has gone mad.....
Have a good day
