I'm getting my first ex battery hens on Saturday the 22nd, am planning on getting 3 to add to my 2, I have read like everything about them! Wanted to hear a few stories about yours and hopefully some pics, maybe before and after,

I was planning on keeping them separate for about 2 weeks separate, feeding them mash, treating them with ivermectin, will inteoduce them to outside very slowly,
I really don't want to loose one so how often does that happen? How many have you adopted and how many have you lost?

Hi Toby

I took on 44 ex-batts back in April. It was a very rewarding experience and one that I would recommend wholeheartedly. They all recovered well and are now looking healthy and happy. You can see before and after pics here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=150705

Chick has also rescued many ex-batts and would probably be better placed to answer any questions you may have on them. Good luck!

PS Where in the UK are you?

A commercial egg layer bird that is put in a tiny cage its whole life and forced to lay eggs, so people rescue them. I want to get some don't know where I can get any??

Thank you! I'm in Essex, glad you didn't loose any and I can't wait to get mine, google ex battery hens rhodiegal and your'll be disgusted, these hens have never seen grass or the sun.

Get onto the Internet, contact every company you can, if you reserve hens it isn't confirmed so if you get them somewhere else you can call or email to cancel them,
Try www.bhwt.com or .co.uk or summink, stands for battery hen welfare trust, google it,
If you contact also hen rehomers uk, and basically as many companies as you can!
Good luck!

Yes, there is no law against it, he can have as many as he want but we're saving those, the farmer really doesn't care what happens to them, he doesn't treat them well as he doesn't need to, it's discusting.
Poeple don't break in and rescue them, they buy/take them from the farmer when he is finished with them.
