Usually I love TSC. Their prices are good, they usually have everything I need, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I had my first bad experience with them this weekend and it just left me speechless. I was looking at their chicks and ducklings, not because I wanted to buy any but trying to fathom why anyone (even someone who doesn't know much about poultry) would cram so many birds into one space. The ducklings were soaking wet and filthy, and most of them couldn't reach the heat lamp. The chicks weren't much better, other than those that had almost sold out so had more room to move around.

The sales assistant came over and asked me how many ducks I wanted. I told him I didn't want any, I had too many and I doubted they would survive the trip (we live 3 hours away and they were soaked to the skin). He told me if I got bored of them I could always take them to the park and turn them loose!! I was lost for words. I told him i'd never do that, but I wish i'd been less polite and set him straight. It scares me to death how many customers he has given this 'advice' to, and how many will probably do it. The pond is full of non-native ducks.

It turns out from speaking to the other staff that they have been sent way too many birds. I'm not sure who orders them, whether it is the store or the corporate office. The staff were complaining that they had boxes and boxes of birds and nowhere to put them.

I was up at a TSC this past Friday, and I noticed that they don't keep their chicks and ducks very clean either. they had no more chicks, but had two ages of Pekins. It looked as though the pellets they had orginally had them on, had all turned to dust, stuck together and very thick!!!

I think that they probably just keep adding them to the bins as they come in.

I complained about my local store by using the contact information shared above by jojo and they responded quickly. I received an email and even had the store manager call me. I complained that bins where not labled as to what breeds they offered and that the store clerks did not have a clue about the breeds either. The next time I went in all the bins had pictures of the adult chickens with some description about that breed. I agree calling or writing in gives corporate some proof that something is wrong and then they can react to correct the problem.

Yes, you have to go to the top. The local people can paper over it much too easily. Go for the greatest impact you can. Ask to be notified of the solution...it holds their feet to the fire.

Please call TSC or at the very least your local humane society. This is starting to sound like a flippin' epidemic and it needs to stop. Yes, they're very inexpensive to purchase, but that doesn't mean they're not of value-they're living, breathing things and need the basics in life. We, as human beings are responsible, if there are idiots out there-they need to be held accountable and TSC should be aware of the goings on in its stores. If this happened at my local TSC, trust me, management would be made aware and changes would be made before I left that store. And believe me when I tell you that I'm not usually a confrontational person, but wrong is wrong and it is up to us to implement changes.

Thats sad. Some TSC's barely got any and were sold out within 2 hrs.

They sure didnt spread the ordering out very well. I dont know if each store orders what they want or not but our TSC's barely got any and they were all spread out in three tubs so they had plenty of room.
