Excellent experience with Murray McMurray Hatchery

They made it to me from the Harchery (1000 mile journey ) in 26 hours. They are all healthy and snuggled up in the brooder this evening. Very impressed by the Harchery and the USPS!
Woohoo!! That is amazing! As soon as they recover from their long trip, post pictures of them! Congratulations!!

:love

I had a good experience with them, too, and got them the day after they hatched. From the tracking it looks like they trucked them up to St. Paul MN form their Iowa hatchery, them flew them to Knoxville, then they were delivered by truck to the post office in my little town. The guy at the post office called me the m jute they arrived. I could not believe how quick it was. I only ordered 6, all different breeds, and one didn’t survive the week. But the other five are now three weeks old and thriving. They are still in a brooder with four girls who are two weeks older and I hope to move the, out to the coop in a couple of weeks to join their oldest sisters.

I wonder if St Paul is the quickest way out? Mine went there too…drove them almost 3 hours there. If it saves a day of ship time, that would make a lot of sense. Would also explain the price increase that happened on all of their birds about a month ago…costs money for fuel to drive 6 hours each group of shipments going out, and to pay a driver for that shift.

I read that they send them to St. Paul because that airport is significantly bigger than the closer one in Des Moines. I know there is a direct flight from St. Paul to Knoxville, but not one from Des Moines to Knoxville.

You are near my neck of the woods. Knoxville is roughly 1.5 hrs from me. I'm glad to hear your chicks did well with shipping. I'm sorry you lost one. What breeds did you get? I see what looks like may be an EE, Cream Legbar, RIR, and Welsummer maybe?

Probably even closer than that, since I'm a good 45 minutes north of Knoxville.

The two bigger/older ones on the right are from a set I got at Rural King (they're a Starlight Green Egger and a Cream Legbar). The McMurray set of 5, starting with the gray one with the chipmunk stripe and going clockwise, are a Speckled Sussex, an Ameraucana, a Red Star, a Barred Rock, and a Buff Orpington.

They will make a pretty little layer flock for sure with all that variety. :love
