This may end up being some sort of copywrite or privacy issue, but is there a way to excerpt something off of this site? For instance, there was that second verse to "The Rainbow Bridge", and now there is that hilariously funny joke about the UK annexing the US. I want to send these to someone, but I can only send the whole BYC link. This is fine for most folks, but I have a friend with a very pokey dial-up modem and it takes her many, many minutes to look at anything - it would be easier if I could just send the text...
Of course, I would always cite my source!

My guess is alot of those things come from other sites even and are passed round and round. If so... I don't think you'd have a problem... but that's my un educated copyright mind thinking.

In principle [see below], you need to ask permission and credit the author. When it's someone's post, you should actually do that (email or pm the person who wrote the post and ask if it's ok). Don't assume that everyone in cyberspace just doesn't care - there are some people who write for a living and have a practical reason to care what happens with their writing.

However, if you already know that the piece is one of these samizdat kinda things that has already been around the world ten times over via email and the author's name has long since fallen off along the way, it is conventionally acceptible to just forward the thing.

But how do I get just that excerpt that I want and not a link to the whole BYC thread?

    Copy and paste [IMG]

Control c and control v if you are on a pc. Alt c and alt v if you are on a mac.

Cut and paste doesn't work for me either! I'm technically inept, I tell you! I even tried to get our secretary to help and she can't figure it out either...

Point your cursor right in front of what you want to copy. Left click and hold down and scroll/highlight all the text that you want to copy. Then right click and choose "copy". Open your e-mail and put the cursor where you want to insert the text and right click and choose "paste".

Here's what I do: Go to the top of the page where the little chicken is. That is where the address to whatever you want to copy is. Highlight that address. Right click "copy." Then go to your email (or wherever you want to send it, put your cursor where you want it, and right click "paste." Just like this:

    There you go...

Just practice highlighting the text (Lmouse button held down - move over and around text watch how it works). When you have the text you want to grab highlighted, release the Lmouse button, press the Rmouse button and choose COPY in the list of options that appear.

Place your cursor in the position you want the copied text to appear - press Rmouse button and choose PASTE from the list of options.

For those folks that do lots of this and need a Really Big clipboard check out the freeware program Clipboard Magic. It saves a lot of time.

Aha - it works on my computer at home but not my one at work. Why would that be, I wonder?
