I've been trying to figure out (doing internet searches) what size eggs Exchequer Leghorns lay. I've read large and small. Anyone have any personal experience they could share, please? Is there a strain (what's the name of the strain of Exchequers) that I should focus on if I'd prefer large white eggs? Or should I just order a different variety of Leghorn?

What about number of eggs per year? Is it about 210 as I've read? Or more/less?

I can't swear to it because mine are in a mixed laying flock, but so far as I can tell they're pretty much egg-sized.

The only breed that I've been disappointed with in terms of egg size so far is my Sussex.

If you are unhappy with the egg size of the Exchequer Leghorns, mate them to the closely related Ancona.

Nonono, don't do that!

People complain about leghorn personality -- but my leghorns (exchequer, mf, buff, white) are all fine in the personality department. HOWEVER, I had two Ancona pullets last year -- now THOSE were flighty birds. Forget it!

I have never raised Exchequers but I have raised other colors of leghorns and I would just have to assume that the eggs would be a medium to large white egg.

amazondoc, interesting comment. In my part of the world the Anconas are a laid back placid breed compared to the majority of the Leghorns.

Well, we're a long way away from you.

Here's how "flighty" my leghorns are:

Now, I readily admit that I have never owned large fowl, white, production-bred leghorns -- and, for all I know, they may truly be crazy. But none of the leghorns I've had (LF exchequer, LF mille fleur, bantam buff, bantam white) have been bad at all.

I hae 2 Exchequer leghorns- they aren't snuggly but they aren't afraid either. Both lay med-large eggs, with an occasional large-ex large.

have any of yall crossed the exchequer, and or the ancona, w a brown leghorn to get mottled leghorns?

if so, which did ya think came out the best looking mottle?
