My town passed an ordinance the day before yesterday making backyard chickens legal!
I had chickens when I was a kid. I love chickens. Now I'm going to be able to have them again and I could not be happier.
I'm in the southern suburbs of Chicago and am going to go find my state thread to see if there are local breeders I should be getting my birds from...even though it's just so tempting to get them mail order so they can just be here and I can start taking care of them.
My husband and I are planning on building a variation of this coop:

I told him we for sure had to take pictures of the process so we might be able to help someone else like that post helped us.
Thank you all for being so helpful. Just because I registered and am posting here for the first time today I assure you this isn't my first visit. I've spent years dreaming of being able to have backyard chickens and now the day is here so I thought it was time to register and make it official!
