My little family is currently in San Antonio, TX. DH is active duty Air Force and we will soon be moving (in about 8 weeks) to NW Florida where he will be stationed at Hurlburt Field. We are to be renting a property a little less than an hour away in Baker, FL. The property includes two chicken coops with enough room for about 40 birds and our landlord has given us the green light (she used to show her own chickens). I had chickens growing up, but it has been some time since then. DH has never had chickens and is extremely excited about the idea of our own eggs. I'm mostly just collecting information at the moment (like the crazy Florida laws on selling eggs). There is a local chicken swap the Saturday after we are scheduled to arrive (it's held on the fourth Saturday of each month). DH and I are planning to go, but not certain if we'll get a couple of hens there or not. It will depend on how we are settling in and if we're ready for them.
