Hi!
I'm Lindsey. We don't have any chickens yet, but I've been studying and reading about them for almost 2 years now. My husband is active duty military and we live on base in Florida currently, but we are moving to Oklahoma this summer and will finally be able to have a small flock of our own. I'll answer the intro questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, but I've learned a lot in 2 years. Obviously nothing truly prepares you until you actually have chickens, I'm sure!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Zero.
(3) What breeds do you have? N/A
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I'm going to love being more self-sufficient, and knowing where some of my food is coming from is amazing. Chickens now, and hopefully a true homestead in 5 years or so.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I am training for a half marathon right now (it's this Sunday, so nervous!), I make jewelry, and I also enjoy cooking from scratch.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband is a pilot in the military, and I was an RN before having kids. I now homeschool my two boys, who are 7 and 5. We have two Australian Labradoodles as well.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've known for 2 years. I follow BYC on facebook, but finally wanted to join here, since we are actually going to be able to have chickens now.
