Hello everyone,

My name is Shannon and I am a new member here. I signed up so I can meet and learn from other chicken lovers out there. I am a huge animal lover and vegetarian. I stopped eating dairy and eggs about a year ago due to the cruelty involved. I would like to start eating eggs again, but only if I know the chickens are loved and treated well. So ultimately I have decided that owning my own chickens is the only true way to achieve this. I recently moved to a house with plenty of yard for my future girls to safely roam. My family has had chickens in the past (some still do) and I cant wait to have my own again!

Nice to meet your Shannon, Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Besides having happy hens you will have the freshest eggs.

Welcome to BYC, Shannon. Glad you decided join our flock. There's nothing quite like freshly laid eggs, and I'm sure you'll love raising your own chickens as much as I do.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

Yes, loved chickens lay the healthiest eggs! You will notice a huge difference in taste and consistency and color of your hens eggs. I haven't eaten a store bought egg in many years and will never eat one again!

Great to have you aboard and we do welcome you to our flock!
