Good luck finding materials to build your coop (don't forget wooden pallets, they're usually free!).
 
Forgot about pallet coops. There are some great examples in the coop section. Any new construction around you? Go dumpster diving. I have pulled out full sheets of OSB board. It might not be the perfect cookie cutter coop but creativity can go a long way.

Be sure and make your coop/run predator proof. Build it like Fort Knox and use hardware cloth rather than chicken wire as there are just too many predators that can either tear through chicken wire or squeeze through the openings in the mesh. So i scored some kitchen cabinets to make my nesting boxes with. I was just going to stick it on the back and use the door as the hatch for the eggs. My question is, do i need to do a slanted roof on the nesting box? Or can i just leave it alone?

The slanted roof will keep them off and pooping on it but it's not the end of the world. I use book cases for my nesting boxes and they do roost and poop on the top.

I would definitely recommend building a slanted roof to keep the birds from nesting on it and pooping on it.
