Excited

Congrats on your babies! I would be very sad if 2 died, though. That's one thing I worry about ordering them through the mail, but from most of what I've heard here, most ducklings do fine as in your case 29 of them did fine.

I have put 100mg of Niacin in 1Gal of water so im feeding water from that. I have a bottle of Pedialite from when i had a sick goat. Its full of electrolites, can i add a little bit to their water to give them a bit of what ever else they need. I have put their water in a marge tub with a lid on and room cut out for their heads,, ive cleaned it out about 8 times so far today. Im enjoying my 7 babies, mess and all, even the dogs have camped outside the spare room waiting to be let in for a look .
My 2 chocolate ones are smaller than the F&W or the Blue and they seem to stand up alot straighter..the other 4 runners just look like any other ducks so far. I know who is who, but the little chocs both look the same for now, they are so tiny and are 1st to stand up and peep at me, even their little tails point to the ground, but the others dont.

That's funny you say that because my chocolate (Willy Wonka) is smaller than the Blue and stands up straighter. Doesn't matter though, I'm in love with them both!

Hehehehe, only 1 of mine has a name so far...maybe 2. 1 F&W is called Bam after Bambi...a lady i play Mafia Wars with..She is over the moon and will be getting a weekly photo of her name sake every Monday to see how she grows...she is tickled pink. 1 of my blues has 3 splodges of black on its back so Ive been calling it Spot.

Well Cookie pan has lasted 5 minutes- They have figured out how to spill the chick waterer into it and make it into a splash pool- all are wet! I guess I get to change the litter (that I just changed 5 min ago). And look for another solution---- At this rate I am unsure that I can trust them out in the barn where I can't check on them every five min~~~

Where have you found the Niacin?

30 at once. 50 at once. Holy moly. The most I've ever brooded was 4 at a time and that mess was enough for me. Wow.

Good luck and know that the huge mess you'll deal with is soooooooooooooooo worth it in the end.

In Walmart, in the pharmacy bit under vitamins. They come in 500mg but i measured it and split it into 5...give or take. Im trying to hold back from going to check on mine every 5 mins so they can sleep. As soon as i walk in they all jump up peeping at me, splash water around, eat food, toilet and do it over and over. 2 of mine walk back, do the toilet then walk forward!!!!

Although 30 precious little ducklings has got to be awesome!
I still have my 1 month old Gray Call living in my laundry room because I just can't let him go outside yet-I don't know who's needier, me or him!

When I do something I do it big- must be learning from my hubby as I never used to be this way

I did this with the chickens as well earlier in the year

Kids and I are getting a big kick out of our summer and everyone is learning about the life cycle.

My oldest even entered a chicken into the fair (and it was through talking with these people that I thought I could actually do ducks). Thus I am surprising my hubby with them- he has been asking for ducks all year and I have been telling him no. Hope he likes his birthday present as if I am guessing right they are going to be a lot of work for me

When I had 11 it was a mess galore. I was so happy to have them out of the brooder when they were 2.5 weeks old. It was getting bad, even with 3 times per day cleanup. The cookie sheet worked well with 11, but again 30 is a hole different story. I think I would stet up 4 feeding stations for them. Consider using a cookie rack on top of a deeper baking dish for the waterer. That way it drips in below. Only they are are little bit small for that right now. Should work in about a week. Be prepared to buy about 300 pounds of feed per month in about 6-8 weeks. Food just goes in and out. I always tell that one duck produces as much poo per day as a 50 pound dog, only in 50 piles. I'm not kidding about that either. On the upside it is good fertilizer.
