Still no pips in the incubator, but when I checked on the chickens today hen was still sitting on her eggs! She starting sitting on them last night and I figured she was just laying, but this morning I noticed she wasn't in the yard with the others like usual. I went out to the coop to see if she was in there and alright, luckily she was fine and still on her eggs, but there was this weird egg that I did not see yesterday that had a pretty large dark brown spot where the air sac is and she seemed to have peeked at it and pushed it to the door of the coop. Any ideas about the eggs in the incubator, the possible broody hen, and the strange egg?

Well, you could just let her sit some eggs and have two batches of chicks.

You could remove the eggs from under her and see if she continues to sit for at least 2 days and nights, then slip the chicks under her at night.

I would remove the funky egg, break it open and see what's what. She shoved it aside because something's wrong with it.

I did remove that egg. She was definitely peaking at it to get rid of that egg because you could see where she did it at in the shell. I also did break it open and it was a fertile egg, but the yolk had two tiny spots that were like a reddish brown color and the outside of the shell had the dark brown spot. I was just wondering what in the world the spot/s were from. I also plan on just letting her keep the clutch. It was unexpected because I never though she would, even though I've been trying to get her to for a pretty long time.

Did she go broody as soon as you plugged in the incubator, lol?

What day of incubation are you on?

I was trying to get her to go broody so I could put the eggs that are in the incubator under her, but she had other plans and decided to wait until the eggs in the incubator are supposed to hatch. They started piping yesterday and they are still trying to get out today.

There's really no way to 'make' a hen go broody, wither they do it or they don't, it's a hormonal thing.

I'd leave her with some eggs, and if she sits tight on the eggs 24/7 until the ones hatch in the incubator so you can try slipping the chicks under her, but I wouldn't risk putting almost ready to hatch egg under a broody that you are not sure of.

Good Luck!
