"exotic"?

That's a good question.

I've noticed on some of the hatchery websites, what one place will label "exotic" or "rare", another hatchery will offer the same breed but not classify them as "exotic" or "rare". For example, Murray McMurray has the Golden Laced Wyandottes under their rare breed section but Meyer Hatchery does not (and they are about half the price, maybe because they don't call them "rare"?).

It may have to do with the American Livestock Breed Conservatory. Murray McMurray refers to that group with this, "The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy is the pioneer organization working to conserve historic breeds and genetic diversity in livestock. Many of the breeds in this grouping are included on their Critical and Threatened lists."

Maybe someone else on this site can explain it better. I've wondered the same thing you are.
