expect the unexpected.

Rear ended by one driver, pushed into oncoming traffic and broadsided by another. My wife and I both survived with no major injuries. Thanks for the reminder to all. Another suggestion: either crate or belt your dog in place. During an accident, a dog can become a flying projectile. I love your attitude and approach to life. Many might have taken the "poor me" approach. Your attitude is a true testament to the nature of your character!

Thanks for the reminder. My mother was hit by a DUI, she survived but after more surgeries that I can count on fingers and toes, it became clear that she was mentally challenged and there had been damage that was not repairable. So yes seatbelt, and if you're drinking anyone, please just stay home or call a cab.

Love your attitude by the way...Thanks for shining so! Nancy

Everyone that gets in my vehicle is required to wear a seat belt. My motto is "Orangie does not pull out until all belts are buckled" (yes, yes, my vehicle is named Orangie...thank you DD) And I WILL sit there until all belts are on.

The biggest peeve I got from your post though was "drunk driver". Here in WV, it seems that we have more than our fair share of these. I know they are everywhere but, Lord, it seems like there are drunk driving wrecks here every day. The worse one I remember was the wife of my boss's brother taking her daughter and neice to the store down in Rich Creek, VA. They had left the ball field at the school and was just going to pick up drinks or something...nothing major. These drunk idiots from out of state were driving a large motor home. From what was later learned, people had been calling the VA state police about this motor home from as far away as Blacksburg. There is a stretch of road on hwy 460 between Narrows and Rich Creek that is called "The Bluffs". I cannot for the life of me understand HOW they got thru the bluffs without wrecking. It is a stretch that is about 1 1/2 miles - 2 miles long, twisty, curvey lanes, one side a sharp drop off and the other side has the rocks and dirt of the hill where the road was cut into it. They made it thru the bluffs, made the turn into Rich Creek, made the turn to head towards Peterstown (almost hit the Rich Creek cop and even HE didn't get them stopped. From what was later released, he didn't even hurry to pull them over). They got to the Dairy Queen just up from the state line at Peterstown and crossed the center line and hit Melissa head on. Her neice was sitting in the backseat behind her and died instantly. Melissa held on until paramedics got her daughter out of the car and then she passed away. Her daughter survived with a broken leg. Her husband was stuck in the traffic backup caused by the wreck and did not know his wife and child were involved. Melissa was 2 months pregnant.

I have Onstar in my vehicle. I cannot tell you the number of times I have called 911 on suspected drunk drivers. I have seen only one State Trooper pull one over. I detest with all my heart someone that willingly drinks and gets behind the wheel of a vehicle. Here in WV, drunk drivers get a slap on the wrist, in home monitoring, one night in jail. It's like the justice system is saying "who cares?" I for one do, and I know a family that was devastated by one and is still struggling to cope to this day. The wreck I described above happened in 2004. It, and they, are not forgotten.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you for bringing up an important subject and I pray God lays His hands on you to help with your long recovery. Keep your positive attitude. I think that is fantastic.
