Experience with implants to stop egg laying - Life threatening

Sorry, but I don't think that I have anything new to contribute. One of my hens had to get a suprelorin implant because she developed a calcified lump in her oviduct that was making her lethargic and put her off her food. It has been almost a full month since she received the implant, and she is still not that different from how she was when she first became unwell. I have had to keep syringe-feeding her with baby food because she has eaten little to nothing almost every day since the implant. There have been days in which she has apparently become active again, but she has gone back to being lethargic the day after.
It is apparently unusual for a bird to be that unwell for that long after receiving a suprelorin implant, though.
In any case, if you are able to get an implant for your duck, you should take the duck back to the same vet for at least one follow-up visit.

So sorry to hear about your girl not feeling any better. I have read that right after the implant they get feeling under the weather. Hopefully she gets feeling better soon.

Breakthrough today for Dudley. I didn’t mention in my original post , I had her to another Vet about 3 weeks ago who I was told has avian experience. She didn’t seem to me to be real willing to do anything. She had cultures sent away and I had never heard back so I thought they showed nothing and she wasn’t going to follow up with me. Well I was wrong. She called today and the cultures showed she still has an infection and that its resistant to the antibiotic the other vet had given her. So she’s sending me the correct antibiotic AND I brought up the implants which I didn’t get to bring up with her before because she didn’t seem real interested in helping. Well she has experience with them and even has them on hand. Dudley goes on the 8th to get her first ! So happy! This is gonna give her a chance! I dreaded the day the poor thing would try to lay an egg. This gets me time to possibly find a vet that would remove her ovary for a more permanent solution.
