and as chickens change weight or the flock grows in number the weight would of course have to be adjusted to just under the complete combined weight of the girls to ensure nobody gets locked out. another problem is if a single girl doesn't roost that night than the whole flock is put in danger.

Have seen this done here once, maybe twice, but it's been awhile....

Just an other thought: I've seen my flock go to roost with their crops practically dragging on the ground. An other night, their crops may be quite empty. A gal can tuck quite a lot of feed in her crop... or not. I imagine that there would be quite a weight discrepancy if each bird was carrying a full crop compared to a nearly empty crop.
