Can't go with the title change though. While appropriate, it would tick off the main character.
Her sister likes my title, but am awaiting suggestions by the main character's former English teacher....

Thanks for all the assistance ya'll! It is deeply appreciated. I've modified each story based on your recommendations and am a lot happier with both of them!

Now they're both being read by a high school English teacher I very much admire

And... I paid my fees for the contest because I will submit them on Monday

The deadline is Wednesday, so I'm not doing my usual last-minute rush. Feels weird....

I worked my tail feathers off getting my stories ready by the 3/31 deadline.
And they extended the deadline to 4/30

And the results will be delivered "In a timely manner." Define 'timely manner' folks!!!!

On the flip side, I can enter as many non-fiction stories as I want. Hmmmmnnnn. Maybe I should re-write the one about DH and I making blackberry jelly for the first time. It made my Grandma & aunts laugh out loud.....
