Experienced Trader Joe hatchers

Well, hubby won't let me cull the boys (believe me, I'm not dying to do it, just want to be responsible for what I hatched) so I'm hoping I'll get lucky and find a home for the 4 boys I have again! I really don't want to anger my neighbors with crowing

Well, I won't be hatching anymore after my current batch in the bator, but I wish you a hugely successful hatch, Irine!!!

Thank you and good luck with your boys. Try posting on craigslis. I still have one Silkie roo and 1 Showgirl. By the way this is my boy..

Leghorns are easy. by two weeks you can already see the pink/red in their comb and the comb starts growing faster. The females don't get color even starting until around 8-10 weeks and by that time, the boys have full blown combs and wattles. Here a couple of my 8 week old boys before they moved on to a place with their other brother where they share 20 hens (hope they're happy!) I loved them, they were so sweet! But couldn't keep them :(

Yes the yard is a mess, was chopping down tree branches, etc.. LOL

I sex mine at 2 day old via feather method

Unless you have two separate strains of leghorns, one with the fast feathering gene and the other with the slow feathering gene, you can't feather sex them. It won't be accurate. The sire needs the fast feathering gene to pass on to his female offspring and the dame needs the slow feathering gene to pass on to the male offspring. You *could* have this situation with your breeding pair, but it's unlikely unless you breed for it. Just thought I'd let you know :) Of course, leghorns show really fast, so it's not that much of an issue.
