Experienced Trader Joe hatchers

had to add
my last two girls (gave away the other 4) still sleep under "moms" wings despite being the same size as her
they are six weeks old and she is a bantum

also LOVED blowing the mind of a veterinarian friend
not sure if she believed me but I know the truth

That is so adorable.. Now that we have kent we will have that someday...
Thanks for the photo.. I am going to go out with our nice camera today
& take some photos of the flock.. My hubby will have to do the down load.
I'm not very good at electronics. So I do not know when that will be..
Can't wait to post some photos..

Q) 2. The brown eggs from WF, are they typically Marans?
They are usually just a production red, like a red star or red sex link. Highly unlikely to be a Marans. As said above, the egg would be quite a bit darker than normal and the chick would hatch would feathered legs. Although, hatchery quality Marans don't lay particularly dark eggs and their feathering isn't necessarily correct.

I just made a big boo boo! In my new coop, I put cat litter. The girls started right away, pecking at it, so I thought "oh they really want some grit" so I went out and got grit for them (our yard is way too silty for them, no particulates) So after doing that and giving them a bowl of grit, I sit down to my computer and figure I better double check if cat litter is ok to use on Chickens (after all, it's just clay) and I discover it's deadly! It turns into expanded guck in their crop and they can't digest it! Oh gosh, I went out there and removed every bit of it that I could and replaced it with pine pellets I had in the patio from when we had a rabbit (still sealed) Hope they'll be ok, they had a total of 2 hours with the stuff!, I hope they were preoccupied with other things in that time!!!

I was going to use it under the roost for easy cleaning, otherwise they had pine shavings.
