I have a broody Muscovy and some chicken eggs I intend to hatch, but am a little wary about letting her hatch the eggs. I've heard Scovies make great broodies, but this is my first year with them, and will be this girls first clutch. Can I trust her to hatch the eggs? Has anyone had any negative experiences, like their Scovy quitting early or damaging the eggs? These are valuable eggs I cannot easily replace, so I want to be relatively sure she can hatch them before I let her set.

She has been sitting on her nest over some golf balls for four days reliably, she only gets up once or twice a day for up to 30 minutes at a time. There is no doubt she's broody. The picture above is from before she was determined to set! :)

I have had very poor luck with ducks incubating chicken eggs. With their webbed feet they frequently break chicken eggs and squish any chicks that hatch. Chickens hatching duck eggs on the other hand works fine.

Thank you for voicing those concerns Sourland, I was a bit hesitant and think I will leave a few under her to see what happens but use an incubator for the rest.
