Old hen laying blood/soft shell

My 6 year old BR is laying soft shell eggs/ no shell eggs with a fare amount of bright red blood. I read that it could be a burst blood vessel. But yesterday she laid a yolk sized blood clot covered in a soft shell- ish. Other than this, she seems fine. Is this an old hen thing? How many of these concerning blood clots etc before I take her in??

The blood clots at that rate and size don't sound good at all, but in lieu of anything else I would give her calcium citrate+vitD 600-800mg asap and daily for the soft shell issue; an occasional clot or splotch can happen and be nothing but that much blood really sounds like a lesion or tumor in the shell gland/tract to me. Hopefully more-experienced folks can say more. Hope for a good answer for you and her both.

I have no idea what is going on, but it could well be something like cancer. I’m sorry that she is doing this and losing blood. Is the blood ever on the inside of the egg or outside, or in the droppings?

Do you have a photo?

Since the "blood clot" was encased in soft shell, could it have been a Follicle instead?

Since she's laying soft shelled eggs, I'd give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for a week.

Has she just come back into lay from fall/winter molt?
