Hi!!! Thanks so much for this information. I purchased 6 "rainbow chickens" back in April. I was under the impression that they were the rainbows that lay the rainbow eggs, but I find they are Dixie rainbows. All the same they are my "pets" and for most part they are great chickens!! Everything you have described it true for these girls. They all have great personalities and get along well with my older chickens. I was just a little disappointed that they didn't lay the multi colored eggs, that and the eggs they lay are the smallest eggs I ever seen. Mine are a dark brown, almost reddish, with a hint of black on the tail.

I have two 1.5 year old rainbow hens in my flock! They're such a joy to have around! :) They're big, heavy birds with lots of personality. The whole flock is going through a hard molt right now, and they're the only two who are still laying. You'd think that a hard molt would be enough to make them stop laying completely. NOPE. They're laying consistently RIGHT THROUGH their molt!
One of them, Clementine, is the "boss" of my flock. She is super friendly, and always comes running when she hears the back door open. She lays 2-3 goose-sized eggs a week that are so big they won't fit in a jumbo egg carton...haha!
Daniellie is flighty, and at the bottom of the pecking order. She screams like a banshee anytime I have to pick her up...lol. She's NOT a smart chicken...her surroundings are brand new to her every day, and every day she has to re-learn how to walk up the ramp into the coop. That being said, she's my BEST layer, and lays a lovely, creamy beige to coral-pink egg almost every single day.

I have 20 Dixie rainbows that are now 6 weeks old and they are big and growing fast, they are mellow and i am very happy i bought them, i have several other breeds but if the DR lay well i will keep no other and order more, i bought straight run to see if they make good meat birds and so far their growth rate seems they will, i will update when they get older.
I am looking for Dixie Rainbow eggs. We don’t have a rooster, but have a broody hen that we’d like to have hatch some. Have any fertilized eggs I could buy from you?? Or know where I could get some? I’m emailed a couple of hatcheries and they wont sell me eggs, just chicks...I would think eggs would be easiest to ship? We’ve purchase quail and pheasant eggs in the past that shipped fine.

I'd like to add to my lil flock. Online now seeking a hatchery.
