I got some cheap eggs from a friend a few weeks ago. He has about 140 hens-Buff Orpingtons, Golden Comets, and RIRs-in with 2 Buff Orpington roosters. The eggs were washed and refrigerated. I was using some of them and seeing the bulls-eye, so I decided to experiment and see if I would get any chicks. I took one dozen of the darkest brown eggs I could find, left them get to room temperature and put them in the incubator(LG). Temperature has been perfect the entire time. Only 3 eggs started developing. Yesterday (day 19-I know, a day late!), I went down to candle one last time and fill the trays for lockdown. When I opened the bator, ALL 3 had pipped!
This morning, there was an adorable, fluffy, golden chick, and another that had just hatched. The third had just started zipping. Within half-an-hour he was out too! Here they are-my first 100% hatch!!!
