Hello,
I am wondering if these two ee are roo or hen. They are nine weeks old and a few days. Please help....

If you can't tell yet how old do they have to be to be sexed?

top one looks rooish although I don't see any saddle feathers yet.

Bottom one is still a toss up. Red comb could mean roo.

My guess would be roo for the first one, the comb looks way more developed and the legs look pretty thick (but it could just be the picture). The 2nd looks more pullet to me.

When is a good age to tell for sure?

Top one is a common color for EE roos. Second one looks roo-ish to me, too.

Now is a good age, but a couple weeks ago was even better.

Both are cockerels though.

My Little Sister's Farm :

In my experience both look like hens. I would keep them a little longer. At 9 weeks the feathers aren't revealing enough.

Can you tell me what to look for in the feathers in the upcoming weeks.

Saddle Feathers, Sickle Feathers, and Hackle Feathers - The common thing to look for in roosters, but they don't pop up noticeably until about 3 months of age or mroe.

Sickle - two long, curled feathers in the tail

Saddle - long, draping feathers at the base of the tail

Hackle - long feathers down the neck
