Looking for members who don't mind being tagged when a question or problem comes up for which they might be particularly helpful with advice. I try to help everyone I can, but I don't know as much as I think I do and often wish an "expert" would drop into the conversation to help - especially with sick or injured chickens! So if you don't mind, and have considerable knowledge in one or more areas, or even general help, please post in this thread and let us know your area of experience or expertise. Thank you!

General knowledge of chicken raising (small hobbyist vs organic farmer). Expert on broody hen raising. General knowledge of drugs (though harder now that FDA has pulled most from the market for use in laying hens). Reasonable knowledge of disease.

Background: Rural raised and born. My grandmother was a chicken rancher. While I now live in an area of suburbia near farmland (1/3 acre), my daughter wanted to be a Vet Tech and own farm animals (she is now an organic farmer with her husband and my grandbabies). We started my flock for her college studies using the kids old play structures. After burning a coop down from a floodlamp heating element, I went solely to broody hatching. I breed for egg color (blue, olive, dark brown) and plumage tracking (to follow my egg color genetics). Good at researching questions for answers. I often use my flock in science studies for my tutor students.

My area of experience would be really anything about egg laying. I also do good with behaviors of chickens, and finding the gender of chickens.

Background info-
Active member in 4H. I have been raising chickens for 5+ years. I live on a small homestead, and love helping people out with any questions about poultry.

I don't think I'll ever consider myself an expert because there's always so much more to learn! But I'm experienced in fermenting chicken feed, chicken behaviors, general chicken keeping, and poultry 4-H. I especially enjoy teaching newbies!

I will be roadschooling and moving over the next few months but I love to help out whenever I can! I can add a backround of my chicken history if you want.

I don't mind being tagged to help. I wouldn't consider myself an expert by any stretch, but I'm pretty good with breed and sex identification and general genetics stuff, I've done some reading on some behavioral, physiological, and developmental topics like perching behavior and photoperiod effects on egg laying and chick growth, and I have a lot of years experience in general with rearing chicks and keeping chickens. 🙂
