expiration dates????? egg collection???????

For future reference, does anyone know how the expiration or sell by dates are determined on the store bought egg cartons? Oh, and do most people agree on how long an egg is good for? I just want to be able to give people we sell or give eggs to some idea of when the eggs should be eaten.
Is it enough to collect eggs once a day and put them in the fridge right away? How do most people do it?
