So, if a chick hatches from an olive egg she should lay an olive egg? At least that's the way I understood it. Trouble is....I don't have anybody that hatched from an Olive egg. Yet I found one in the coop today.

Any ideas?

They might not have come from an olive egg but someone is mixed and has the EE gene. Got any pictures of your hens? Maybe someone can pick out the olive egg layer.

From what I can tell, an olive egger is most commonly a cross between EE and a dark egglayer (usually maran or welsummer). If the rooster was the EE and the hen that laid the egg was the dark egg layer, you can get an olive egger that hatches from an egg which is not olive colored.

Ahhhhhhh! ok, it was a darker egg, and they do have marans. I know which one the EE is. I was just expecting a egg the same color as the one she hatched out of. Imagine my surprise when I found my first green egg!
