Explaining Chicken Math

LMFAO I should have checked here before responding in the other thread. I am debating a hova bator or LG styrofoam one because they are more reasonable and I can keep a ton of eggs in there......or getting a brinsea mini advance without the turning feature. I soooo am not in the position to be laying out more money for this naughty habit! lol I need to go back to work if I want to keep up my chicken habit.

I haven't fallen victim to the chicken math yet, but for some reason, I am feeling compelled to want more chickens today! We agreed to get 4 chickens but my friends broody only hatched out 2. one of them is an ee rooster, and the other is a cuckoo maran/rir mix. Had them for couple weeks and we said we need more. So we went to a local farm and came home with 3 maran hens, and 2 mixed ducks both males. Now that I know our ee is a male, I want an ee hen, a rir or new Hampshire red hen, an australorp, a brahma! lol, do you see where this is going? I want a colorful flock and colorful egg basket, so now I need olive eggers! someone help, I need an intervention!

All I wanted was fresh eggs for breakfast. I did a lot of research before getting my chicks but over the past two and a half years I've learned (sometimes the hard way) that no amount if "research" could equal "experience"!

And I was doing chicken math and didn't even know it!
I started out with 6 chicks and like someone else here said I got them straight run not knowing really what that meant....2 were roosters. I kept both.

There have been too many aadditions and subtractions since the onset of my addiction! When just more chickens wasn't enough the ducks came....then the guineas....then the turkeys.....

Today, there are 4 chicken/turkey/guinea "condos" and a duck house and pen. From starting out with 6, all told there are 34 chickens, 5 ducks, 9 guineas and 6 turkeys.

Needless to say, I get my fresh eggs for breakfast!

this is to blt79, who wrote "...I want an ee hen, a rir or new Hampshire red hen,..." i can't offer a full intervention, which you apparently feel you need, but i can help a little. get rid of the "or" in the above quote, and replace it with "and." then you'll be on the way to becoming a chicken mathematician.

haha, thank you for your support! I don't know why I added the "or", you are 100% right! maybe even add in some other breeds! why not?
