Agree agree agree, chicken wire is pretty much a waste of money unless you are using it for a trellis to grow climbing plants, even then it may collapse under the weight.
I didn't bother digging to bury fencing either, rather secured hardware cloth on the floor of the coop and run so absolutely nothing but a worm can tunnel in.
