Extend perch into corners?

Hi Folks,
I'm building the perches for my coop this weekend, does anyone have any feedback either way on extending the perch all the way to the corners of the coop, do the chickens like a wall to lean on or can I cut the perch a bit shorter and center it leaving an open space to each corner? I don't want the ladies uncomfortable if they like leaning on something.

My ladies like to claim the spots nearest the walls in our coop. The perches butt into the walls on either end of the coop. On my home page there is a link to our coop if you want to take a look.
